I particularly enjoyed the interactive projects in the elementary years- building dioramas of different time periods and biospheres, as well as all of the class plays- where I always played an animal. Thus my interest in animals was sparked and nurtured, putting me on my path to study Animal Science.
The mixed-age groups at each level were a big plus for me. You get great role models in the older students; people who you can aspire to be, accelerating your maturity and desire to do more challenging work. Additionally, being in a class with younger kids allows you to be a role model and a leader. I believe every child has the capacity to be a good leader, being around people every day who look up to you and try to emulate you shapes you into a leader whether you know it or not. At Woodland Hill you learn valuable leadership skills naturally; you learn to interact with and relate to people of all ages.
Three to five words to describe the Woodland Hill/MSA experience:
Independent, Creative, Intuitive, Authentic, Personalized
Current passion:
I want to study animal behavior, and put my knowledge to use improving animal welfare anywhere I can (such as in animal shelters and the meat industry)
Honors:
Dean List and Honors College
Current Profession/Place of work:
I participated in a winter (2015) internship at the Animal Protective Foundation in Scotia, NY and now have a summer job there as an Animal Care Technician. I love getting to start each day by walking a dog and snuggling with a cat, and I love leaving each day knowing I made a difference in the lives of at least twenty homeless animals.
For Fun:
I read voraciously, write, and train dogs and horses when I can.
